Restoration of the Royal Plaque

Memorial plaque St. John’s Church for King Friedrich Wilhelm III of Prussia and Queen Louise

On the initiative of the club, in cooperation with cultural heritage expert, sculptor-restorer Vytautas Baranskas and historian Jovita Saulėniene, the memorial plaque is being restored. The memorial plaque was presented by the royal family to the Evangelical Lutheran St. John’s Church, which they used to visit during their stay in Klaipėda. Unfortunately, in 1944 when the church burned, all the works in it were lost.

Text of the commemorative plaque in English:

“Since 1807 January 8 until 1808 January 15 Their Majesties Friedrich Wilhelm III, the just and supreme, and the unforgettably pious Queen Louise visited our church with the royal princes and princesses. in 1807 February 8 the queen, who recovered from exhaustion, prayed here in thanks for her healing, and on March 27 of the same year attended the Good Friday service with the Holy Supper with the courtiers and the community. in 1854 October 4-5 burned down in 1857 September 13 in the consecrated St. The memorial plaque in John’s Church gratefully recalls the couple of rulers.

Psalm 122: We wish Jerusalem happiness. May all who love you be blessed. May peace be in your house and happiness in your palace.”
